Woods of the World

Birdseye Maple. This wood comes from forests in the United States. The birdseye pattern is normally due to stresses in the tree as it grows. Most highly figured birdseye is in the form of veneers as it is a much better use of the limited availability of the wood. You can get solid birdseye maple wood but it is not an efficient use of the resource. With modern glues and clamping methods veneering is not a bad word anymore.
